Time to Stand and Stare (27th Apr - 15th Jun 2019)
'Time to Stand and Stare' is an exhibition of paintings and drawings in mixed media by local artists and art educators Robin Horspool and Rose Horspool.
Alongside their own practise, Robin and Rose run Vista Arts, a programme of courses, workshops and lectures which encourages sound practical skills and appreciation of our cultural heritage.
Robin Horspool
Artist, writer and poet Robin Horspool was born in Bridlington. He is grandson of Robert Horspool, Art Master at Bridlington School 1900-35. He achieved his National Diploma in Design at Scarborough School of Art and Teaching Certificate at the North Riding College of Education.
A member of East Riding Artists, his work and interests are varied and wide; being Poet in Residence at Spurn Point in 2017, for the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, further inspired literary and artistic creativity.
Rose Horspool
Rose Horspool is inspired by the natural world and uses a range of media. Her latest project (still ongoing) is based on a year of walking in the Yorkshire Wolds, recording in a painted folding book the flora and fauna - some of it increasingly rare - that she sees through one year.
Her thoughts on this can be summed up by: ‘The curve of a frayed rope, a shadow cast, a flash of unexpected colour, the smell of damp leaves in an autumn wood, an unfurling bud, a decaying bird’s wing, a ripple of reflection. These things and more have made an artist, illustrator, printmaker and painter, searching for ways to express them.’
