Original Paintings by Janine Baldwin
Living on the North Yorkshire coast, Janine Baldwin is constantly inspired by the beautiful moors, woodland and coastline surrounding her home, producing paintings, prints and works on paper. Sketches made directly in the landscape form the basis of her studio work. With a strong focus on mark-making and texture, Janine creates each piece with gradual layers of charcoal, pastel and graphite.
Janine has exhibited extensively across the UK, including with the Royal Academy of Arts, the Pastel Society, and the Society of Women Artists. Her work is included in private collections worldwide, and she has received several prestigious awards. In 2017, Janine was elected a member of the Pastel Society (Mall Galleries, London). She is also an Associate Artist of Unison Colour.
Ceramics by Jill Ford, Rowen Ford, Michelle Freemantle and Ilona Sulikova
The second half of this exhibition showcases original ceramic pieces by Jill Ford, Rowen Ford, Michelle Freemantle, and Ilona Sulikova.
Jill Ford's ceramics are simple in form: full, round bowls, tall skinny standing forms, and Moon Jars which have exuberant spherical forms echoing the shape of the full moon.bEach piece is unique, designed to be a stand-alone feature or displayed as part of a group.
Rowen Ford creates fine white porcelain slip-cast homewares from her studio in rural Yorkshire. Her simple, thoughtfully-produced ceramics, which include single stem vases, hand crafted cups and porcelain drinking beakers, are designed to be used and loved every day. Rowen's products are strong enough to withstand the rough and tumble of life, but are soft and smooth enough to be your favourite.
Michelle Freemantle combines hand-built, press mould and thrown techniques to create ceramics which are tactile and visually pleasing. Lines and text are inscribed into the surfaces, and slips and oxides applied. Her functional work embodies both utility and content, acting simultaneously as art pieces, whilst complementing the food within and enriching the eating experience.
Ilona Sulikova makes large, full-bodied vessels, decorating them with intricate geometric patterns that repeat, expand and contract. This creates sequences of rhythm and movement. In order to achieve fusion between the pattern and the spherical form, all pieces are raku-fired.
