In Colour (6th Sep - 26th Oct 2019)
'In Colour' is an exhibition of original paintings by Claire West and ceramics by Angela Hall which celebrates both colour and nature.
Angela Hall
Angela Hall studied Visual Communication at Bath Academy of Art, where her love of printmaking, particularly silkscreen and etching, was established. She has formerly worked both in commercial design and with established community arts charity Rural Arts, teaching and facilitating projects which involved a broad range of materials and techniques. Now focusing on her own practice, Angela is currently artist in residence at Harrogate College.
Angela lives on a working farm in the Vale of York, and finds inspiration in the woods and heathland where she lives. She makes hand-built ceramic vessels, platters and tiles, alongside printed works on paper using silkscreen and etching techniques.
Angela's ceramics are practical as well as decorative, and provide a palette for combining detailed hand-painted landscapes, graphic images, and printed decals.
Claire West
Claire West paints because it makes her happy, and she hope that it does the same for those who view her work. She believes in the power of colour therapy and its role in uplifting the spirit, and enjoys exploring intensity and contrast when working with colour.
"I like using colours that are often believed to not work together," says Claire. "I hope to break down the boundaries of what we should and shouldn't do, and explore the freedom that is so often lost in art when we are no longer children."
Claire usually works on canvas in acrylic and inks, layering these to create texture. As the painting develops, discoveries and 'happy accidents' will often help to form the finished painting, dictating where detail will happen.
