Once Upon a Wall (From Saturday 24th April 2021)

Gallery Forty-Nine’s first exhibition of 2021, 'Once Upon A Wall', features original artwork by Jeanne Gale Mundy and Keith Price.

Both artists utilise a range of media, and study their immediate environment through their work. Jeanne, who is inspired by the coast and countryside, strives to 'create feelings of joy and wonder, fun and curiosity'. Meanwhile, much of Keith's artwork in this exhibition reflects his personal experiences of lockdown and his exploration of his hometown of York.

Jeanne Mundy

Jeanne Mundy uses a range of media. She finds inspiration from both coast and countryside, working plein air when possible.

Jeanne says: “Through my paintings I strive to create feelings of joy and wonder, fun and curiosity, attempting to capture a sense of place and season. I believe every picture tells a story.”

She has sold both locally and internationally, and exhibited widely within Yorkshire (Gallery 49, Zillah Bell Summer exhibition, Thirsk Rural Arts, Tennants Leyburn, Sleningford Stable Gallery, York Medical Society Rooms, The Old Deanery Ripon, SMART Gallery Leeds).

Jeanne appeared in series 4 of the BBC’s The Farmers Country Showdown, as well as featuring on Forces TV and Look North when providing the artwork for Dan Metcalfe’s highly acclaimed WW1 ‘Fields of Mud, Seeds of Hope’ installation in Ripon Cathedral, and the designs for the steel figures installed around Ripon.

Keith Price

Keith Price’s work explores the opportunities presented mixed media. Incorporating drawing, water-colour and oil paint, he uses images from still life, landscape and the figure. He also uses collage.

Most of the Keith’s work in ‘Once Upon a Wall’ reflects his experience of the lockdown period, both positive and negative.

Keith says: “It has given me a greater opportunity to explore and represent the environment around my home and the city of York, as well as the surrounding countryside.”

Keith has exhibited and sold widely within Yorkshire (Gallery 49, Zillah Bell Summer exhibition. Art for Youth North, Thirsk Rural Arts, Tennants Leyburn, Sleningford Stable Gallery, York Medical Society Rooms, The Old Deanery Ripon).
