Nicky Clacy has worked extensively with papier mâché materials since December 2003, and in that time she has sculpted diverse pieces of art from animal sculptures to detailed figurines. Having moved on from the newspaper strips she originally used, Nicky now works with a pulp made from tissue paper and PVA glue to create her sculptures. When dried, this mixture provides a robust finish.
She has recently had commissions from Aston Villa Football Club and the Big Brother house. From June-October 2011, character pieces for her Alice in Wonderland-inspired solo exhibition, ‘The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party’, were on display at Burton Constable Hall near Hull. Nicky also hand-made the clothing each of her characters wore, which enabled her to explore her love of sewing.
