Jane Burnley

With a background in graphic design and illustration, Jane Burnley began to paint in the late 1990s. Also training as a yoga teacher, she found herself drawn to a more intuitive way of working, letting a painting naturally evolve, emerge and develop.

Jane is inspired by colour and landscape, working quickly in acrylics to build up layers and create texture. She usually works in small scale and often applies oil pastel underneath the paint before scratching through to the colour below. She finds this not only exciting, but very therapeutic!

Jane also produces mixed media pieces, mono prints and spiritual work. She regularly participates in North Yorkshire Open Studios.

Leisa Howes

After taking up a jewellery-making course at her local college, Leisa Howes quickly became fascinated by the processes involved in working with metal, learning that making jewellery requires an awful lot of practice and patience! Leisa subsequently studied part-time for a degree in 3D Metal Craft alongside her day job and family life.

Leisa is drawn to nature and the sea, mythology, ancient landscapes, standing stones and British wildlife. She loves metal that has a patina, and that appears aged, weathered, or rustic. She is also influenced by her love of medieval and naïve/primitive art, and feels that the latter "frees the mind of all the constraints and rules we have instilled in us about how we should draw or paint."
